It's over. As of today, Google Photos is no lengthier free.
And so more than one person will go to work to find another place to store
their photo library or at least part of it.
If the location you chose is the iCloud Photo Library, be
careful: we're going to explain in what way to transfer photos from Google
Photos to Apple's cloud without dying when you try. Contingent on the size of
your collection, this can take several hours, but it's a simple matter of
patience.
From Google Photos to Mac, and from there to iCloud
Apple has provided an easy way to transfer your library from
iCloud to Google Photos, but unfortunately there is no easy reverse process.
Therefore, we will need to download the photos from Google Photos and, as soon
as they appear on the computer, import them into Apple's Photo Library.
The best thing to do to download all photos from Google
Photos are to go to the Google Takeout website. In it, the company allows you to
access all the data it has about its services, including Google Photos. Uncheck
the entire selection by clicking Unselect All, find Google Photos, and mark it:
Go down to the bottom of this side and click the Next Step
button. Google gives you the ability to upload all photos in multiple
compressed files, being able to choose the size of each of these files. The
larger they are, the fewer files will be uploaded. Select the option to export
everything at once, the. ZIP format and the desired size.
At this point, you just need to click the Create Export
button. Google will download the file as you specified, and once everything is
ready to download, you will receive an email to your Gmail address with
download links. This process can take several days, depending on the size of
your library. Patience.
When you receive an email and download all of the photos
(make sure you have enough space on your Mac), you just need to drag and drop
all of those photos into the Photos app. They will be added to the library, and
if iCloud is activated in it, all new content will be uploaded to Apple's
cloud.
If you're not sure if iCloud Library is turned on, you can
check it in System Preferences> Apple ID and check the "Photos"
box. If you have a version of macOS earlier than Catalina, this setting is in
System Preferences> iCloud.
Finally, keep in mind that in order for all photos to upload
to iCloud seamlessly, you must have sufficient contract space. Apple gives you
5 GB, but you can get 50, 20, or 2000 GB for 0.99, 2.99, or 9.99 euros per month,
respectively. You can also get more space through the Apple One plan, details
of which you can find here.
